NEXUS 2008

Seminar on "Industry-Institute Alliance for Effective Education"
by Amplify for
"Education for Employability"
on 19th September 2008

As part of its industry-institute alliance initiative, Amplify Department of Information Technology & Management along with its industry partner RELIANCE COMMUNICATIONS had organised the Third Meet for "Industry Institute Alliance for Effective Education" on 19th September 2008, at the BVU Medical College Auditorium, Bharati Vidyapeeth Campus, Dhankawadi.

In an ongoing effort to foster interaction between industry and academia, Amplify hosted IT-industry executives, academicians, students and the press, at this meet named "Nexus 2008" on its campus at the Bharati Vidyapeeth University. This was the third such meet Amplify has held and plans are to hold many more and bigger events like this to actualize the theme of "Education for Employability".

A panel discussion, as a highlight of the event, had leading lights from industry, education, and the Press. Many workable ideas and action points emerged during this enriching session. Amplify also had few students expressing their views on the industry expectations from them as freshers or as industry ready product for employment.

Huge scarcity of skilled manpower is hampering industry from realizing the significant growth opportunities Indian economy offers today. At the same time, the graduates output by academia have very low employability. Indian IT companies are trying every way to procure suitable resources " hiring graduates with non-technical degrees, recruiting from far-flung and mofussil campuses, making offers to students in their final year itself and coaching them for the job, running elaborate induction training programs. But the results are still far from satisfactory, leaving industry wondering why academia cannot teach students what it needs over the two decades of education.

Academia carries its own bag of woes " lack of flexibility to rapidly modify curricula to fit the dynamic industry requirements and lack of a sustained mechanism for continuous interaction with industry are the main killers.

This alliance initiative conducted by Amplify would surely go miles in tuning "Education for Employability".

Dignitaries from the corporate world gave their valuable inputs to guide the students and Amplify as an institute to develop its graduate / post graduate students as more holistically developed individuals ready to face the industry.
